Iāve been working with Opteo recently, and I was impressed to see their latest data study with the great Austin Pena.
Iām all for anyone putting in the legwork to help the PPC community.
They analysed a TON of data (weāre talking over 300k Google Ads accounts and 8 billion clicks) and hereās what they found:
The top 10% of clicks lead to CPAs that are 134% higher than average, but only increase conversions by 4.39%.In other words, the most expensive clicks are the least efficient, inflating CPAs and dragging down campaign performance.
Smart bidding has its place, but we still need to keep a close eye on how Google spends our budgets.
One tactic? Wrap your campaign in a portfolio bid strategy and set a max CPC bid cap.
